ASSOCIATION REGISTRIES

A Fullblood (Original)Braunvieh is so designated because every animal in its pedigree traces back to Braunvieh cattle that originated from the Swiss Original Braunvieh. There must not be any linkage to external genetics in their pedigrees, this includes Brown Swiss.

Purebred Braunvieh are those animals that have been
bred-up to purebred status as a result of using Fullblood Braunvieh or purebred sires to cross with an animal of another breed*. Purebred Braunvieh females must be 87.5 percent or more Braunvieh genetics and males 93.75 percent or more Braunvieh genetics.

The colors of purebred Braunvieh can vary and can include brown, black and tiger stripe or various shades thereof, depending on the breed from which the purebred was originally bred up from.

Grade animals are those that are used for breeding up to Purebred status.

Grade animals must first be registered with the Association and are graded as -

GR1 for the first crossing

GR2 for the second crossing

GR3 for the third crossing

Purebred is the result of the fourth crossing.

*We do not allow the use of Bos Indicus, Dairy, Double Muscling or Excessive White in base animals used for breeding up to Purebred status.
